Have you been wanting to write a story, but don't know where to start? These tips are a great way to write your story, and they work!

1) Plan your story

Every story needs a plot, a setting, characters and much much more. You must also think about your target audience. Before writing your story you should make a basic plan, such as a mind map and a story mountain. First you will need a setting, this could be anywhere. When planning your setting, you will need to do a lot of research.

Next you will need to think of your characters. First of all you need a main protagonist. This character has to fit your story, make them unique to what you are writing about. Now you may want your antagonist, some books don't need an antagonist though, when the problem is emotional or inside the protagonist's head it is not required to have an antagonist. Finally you will need some supporting characters, these characters are not the main ones, but are important.

Lastly you need to plan your plot. You could plan it by chapter, or use a story mountain. You must chose what works best for you. You will then need to figure out the final details to your story.

2) Chose a quiet peaceful place to write

When writing a novel or short story you will need to concentrate. If you are surrounded by a whole lot of loud noises and interruptions you will never be able to write your story. This space can be a bedroom, a study or any place you have to yourself. Though some writers have been known for writing in bustling cafes or trains, but personally I find it best to write in a quiet space.

3) Start writing your first draft

When writing a story your first draft is SO important. When writing your first draft ensure that you have lots of description and figurative language. But you must also make sure your story is interesting. Different audiences like different things. For example, a young child wouldn't want to read a book written for an adult, and a 43 year old probably wouldn't be interested in a story for a 6 year old. So when writing your first draft you have to think of so many things. Your story has to make sense. A character can't be standing in a bar, then the next chapter it says they were in their bedroom, that would confuse your readers.

You also need to have a good ending. Some stories end in cliffhangers, while others end with a resolution. Your ending is entirely up to you.

4) Go back and edit

Editing your story well is another very important part of writing it. Imagine if you have created an amazing story that has a great plot, but if it is full of typo's and grammar mistakes nobody will be interested. Another great thing to do while editing is to expand your description. I think that it is so important to edit your story well.
